Well, I think we can now put all the ‘Robert Battinson’ speculation to bed because it has been confirmed by Warner Bros. that British actor Robert Pattinson will indeed be playing the caped crusader in the next Batman film. The latter will be directed by Matt Reeves, famed for movies such as Cloverfield, Let Me In and War of the Planet of the Apes, and is set to be released worldwide on June 25, 2021.
According to Deadline, one of the websites that broke the news, the ‘race to Wayne Manor’ came down to the wire with 2 two actors; Pattinson (the director’s choice) and Nicholas Hoult (the studio’s preferred choice). Eventually, after a serious contemplation by Warner Bros, Pattinson won the day and is now poised to join a long line of prolific actors who have previously donned the cape i.e. Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Goerge Clooney, Christian Bale and most recently, Ben Affleck.
Matt Reeves in an interview while promoting ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ two years ago, said that the film will substantially feature a ‘noir-driven’ detective version of Batman. Reeves corroborated this statement early this year during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime.”
Robert Pattinson, in many ways, is an actor who hasn’t had the most illustrious filmography, so to say, given how ill-received the ‘Twilight’ films turned out to be. Nonetheless, he has without a doubt been on the ascendancy since then with films such as Good Time which, despite grossing only $4.1 Million in the Box Office, was a hit among both audiences and critics. It’s a film that astoundingly got him Best Actor nominations in 14 separate award ceremonies held between November 2017 and March 2018.
33 year-old Pattinson, having officially been announced to play the titular superhero, becomes the second-youngest actor ever to play Batman, after Christian Bale, who was just 31 when he took the role in Batman Begins in 2005.

Yeah, true. But I am optimistic… I really am. I think he’ll be great in the role. Not as great as Bale but anywhere close would be an achievement.

I’ll need a lot of persuading… Though he can’t be worse than Affleck, right? 😉

Hehe… fingers crossed. personally, I didn’t think it appropriate to put that ‘Dark Knight’ version of Batman in the DCEU, I prefered a much younger version.

I’m being biased against him playing a good batman however I believe he will do a better job than Affleck though 100%.

What I’d say is… Let’s wait and see! I am not entirely convinced he will pull it off but he deserves a chance at it.

Oh I agree with you. He isn’t going to be no Adam West or Bale for sure. But we can only hope he doesn’t drill it deeper than it already is.

I agree. He has to get to the gym and eat heavy as well. I hope Pattinson gains enough muscle weight to look convincing in the role by the time principle photography begins.
If he does fall short, they’d have to put padding on the guy.

I feel so late! Why am I just now hearing about this! 😂 Both Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult are interesting choices. I can’t really see them as Batman, but but I’m sure they would both do a brilliant job in the role. I look forward to seeing Robert Pattinson In the batsuit!

Me too, Charli; he’s got a lot of training and bulking up to do though. I think he’ll pull it off, he’s a great actor. Have you watched his recent movie, ‘The Lighthouse’?

I think so too! No I haven’t seen that movie. Is it good? I need to see more of his acting outside of the Twilight series! 😂
