The 2019 Oscars nominations list is finally out and it’s safe to say that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or rather comic book enthusiasts in general have something to smile about in relation to comic book films that made the cut. Ryan Coogler’s ‘Black Panther’ and the Russo brothers’ ‘Avengers; Infinity War’ were two of the most groundbreaking films of 2018 for different reasons that go even beyond the Box Office numbers. Of the duo, you could say Coogler’s film is bound to break the unbreakable barrier that has previously seen many comic book movies fall short in the awards seasons year after year if the 7 nominations that it has gotten is anything to go by.

Of all the categories, one would say Black Panther’s greatest strengths are probably in the ‘Best Costume Design’ and ‘Best Production Design’ categories alongside the music and score categories i.e ‘Best Original Song’, ‘Best Sound Editing’, ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Production Design’. Anyone who has seen the film, which is pretty much most people, can’t argue with the fact that everything that went into making Wakanda what it eventually turned out to be lies in the above Academy Awards categories.

Kendrick Lamar’s outstanding song ”All the Stars”, the pristine and unique costumes featured especially the one’s donned by the DoraMilaje or even Ludwig Göransson’s exceptional score which he went all the way to West Africa to record; these are all aspects to the film that most audience members took notice off and held in high regard just weeks into the film’s release. The movie taking a clean sweep in the awards ceremony is definitely out of question nonetheless, Black Panther is poised to provide very stiff competition in it’s respective categories.

  1. I mean, it was a great movie, but definitely not the best Marvel movie of this year. I’m pretty sure it was nominated because of “diversity”
